The vehicles
Every Firefly bus goes through a scheduled maintenance and safety inspection programme run by an in-house mechanical team, so that every vehicle on the road is roadworthy and compliant. Onboard electronic equipment is tested and serviced on the same basis.
The drivers
Firefly drivers are trained in defensive driving, first aid, safety procedures and emergency response, and that training is ongoing rather than one-off.
Drivers must comply, without exception, with the legally mandated driving hours and rest periods. This is why some services have scheduled breaks built into the timetable, and why an unplanned break is occasionally necessary.
On board
- Every seat has a seat belt, and it must be worn for the whole journey. These are long-distance buses and the belts are there for the same reason they are in your car
- Emergency exits are clearly marked and signed throughout the bus
- Drivers give a pre-departure safety briefing
- Hand luggage must be stowed properly in the overhead compartment, not loose in the aisle
- Photo ID must be carried at all times and shown on request
- Smoking, vaping, alcohol and illicit drugs are prohibited by federal and state regulation. Anyone under the influence will not be permitted to board
- Anyone behaving disruptively may be removed from the bus at the driver's discretion
- All children under 16 must travel with a chaperone aged 16 or over, and every child needs their own purchased seat. Children are not seated in the front row
